ABOUT

Certainly the very first cooking utensil to have been manufactured, the terracotta dish dates back to at least 1000 years BC. Shaped and modeled, this natural material which is earth can be used to design many types of objects. Its thermal properties allow different uses, whether in construction, for construction or insulation, or in food, to keep food away from light or heat. Discover here the many advantages of cooking in terracotta, a 100% natural material, used for thousands of years.

Terracotta dishes: an artisanal production

What is called earth here is actually clay. In the kitchen, this material allows for extraordinary cooking with incomparable flavors. But cooking in so-called raw earth would be impossible: enameling is necessary to prevent food from entering the pores of the earth. It was therefore necessary to apply a coating.

All our products are guaranteed lead-free, which means there may be some dimensional or visual irregularities with less vibrant colors. However, it is these small imperfections that make our utensils unique and healthy, because they are entirely handmade. When they have a lid, it is chosen specifically to fit the container. Note that no lid is either watertight or perfectly flat; sometimes you can see a few millimeters of space on the contact surface, but this does not interfere with cooking.

Cooking in terracotta for preserved and authentic flavors

Terracotta allows excellent heat distribution during cooking. It is the ideal material for long cooking times and simmered dishes such as tagines in order to obtain a very tender and tasty texture of food. But it is also possible to cook in terracotta to make various and varied dishes. It will be used in particular to prepare soups, dishes in sauce based on meat, fish or vegetables, gratins or even desserts (cakes, crumbles, tarts, etc.).

We offer different types of terracotta containers so you can choose the one that best suits your needs:

All our terracotta items are compatible with gas, electric and ceramic hobs, ovens, barbecues, wood stoves or fireplaces. Be careful with halogen hobs which start very quickly and do not allow for slow preheating as recommended in the instructions for use . For induction hobs, a metal sole must be placed so that it can start.
